The 2007 GI Joe Convention kicked off this morning in Atlanta. Over the weekend, Hasbro will be tempting fans with all their glorious offerings for the year from their various GI Joe lines. ToyNewsInternational has the coverage - including some early pics of the collector’s club “parachute drop” figure - a con exclusive red repaint of the Sigma6 line’s Kamakura. There is also some 25th Anniversary news, revealing that Crimson Guard and Snow Job are up next for the superarticulated treatment! Click over to TNI and read all about it.

GIJOECLUB.com has some good images of the upcoming Toys R Us exclusive 8″ GI Joe Combat Squad ‘Land, Sea, & Air’ three-pack. The set includes the ground soldier ‘Backblast’, the underwater operative ‘Deep Six’, and aerial assault expert ‘Barrel Roll’. While all the figures in the set are rehashes/repaints of figures previously released in the 8″ GI Joe and Sigma 6 lines, these figs are all looking pretty good. The suggested retail price is $30, and you should start seeing these on Toys R Us shelves in a few weeks. Check out GIJOECLUB for more pics and info.

A Chinese toy forum has put up some packaged and loose pics of all the figures from Hasbro’s upcoming Marvel Legends Fantastic Four series. This set of eight figures includes the classic F4 members Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing, as well as their allies Namor the Submariner and the Silver Surfer, along with villains Dr. Doom and Moleman. The build-a-figure from this assortment is Ronan. I’m pretty ‘meh’ about Hasbro’s offerings under the Marvel Legends banner so far, but at least they’re making an effort to give fans the characters they want. If you can muddle through the Chinese script, scroll through this site and check out the pics.

The first wave of DC Universe Classics is up for preorder at a few select online retailers. In case you’re out of the loop - this is the first series of figures to be released by Mattel under their recently-acquired license of the full DC Universe. So, no more all-Batman and all-Superman waves!
The first series includes regular figures ‘Classic Batman’, ‘Etrigan’, ‘Red Tornado’, ‘Orion’, and ‘The Penguin’. And, of course, buying all five gets you the super-fab build-a-figure of ‘Metamorpho’. (See and read lots more about them here.)
If you’re not into skulking about Wal-Mart toy aisles trying to luck upon Mattel’s ‘questionably distributed’ product, then put your mind at ease with an online preorder. You can get a good price on a case of the first series at either Enchanted Toy Chest or Corner Store Comics. (These figs are tentatively scheduled to hit shelves some time around December.)

TNI (ToyNewsInternational) has some nice, high-quality pics up of the first two series of DC Universe Classics - as they were unveiled recently at Wizard World Chicago. Wave one is stacked with Classic Batman, Etrigan, Red Tornado, The Penguin, and Orion - who come with pieces to form the line’s first BAF, Metamorpho. But the true toy geek furor is over the second series that delivers us a 6″, superarticulated Harley Quinn (yay!) along with Aquaman, Black Manta, Firestorm, and Red & Blue Superman figures. Gorilla Grodd is the much anticipated BAF from wave 2. You can see the WWC protos of all these figs at TNI. Check out series 1 here. And series 2 here.
