HML Hulk Wave… 15 Bucks?!
Okay, so Hasbro has been dangling tidbits of info about this year’s Marvel Legends Hulk-centric line for a while now. At first it was two series of six figures - 12 total - to build the Fin Fang Foom BAF. Then it was reduced to 10 figures, and now down to 8. But it’s still two waves of four. So… they’ve spread the BAF over two waves. Well, that’s weird and frustrating enough. But it’s still just eight figures for a good sized BAF, right? Well, maybe.
You see, we haven’t actually seen Hasbro’s prototype of the Fin Fang Foom figure. What they showed at the UK Toy Fair was an image of custom done by a customizer named Cal. That’s right - Hasbro stole a customizer’s work and pawned it off to toy retailers as what they’ll be offering this year. Wow…
Now we get news from Hasbro that this wave of Marvel Legends will retail for… 14.99!!! What?! a 50% increase?! Why? Is it because they’ve increased articulation and paint apps? Um… no. It’s because the BAF is “bigger”. Uh huh. He’s supposedly 15″ tall. Now, he’s stretched over two waves, and they still want us to pay five dollars more per figure to build him? What the hell is Hasbro thinking?! I seem to remember buying a Maestro Hulk with a pretty big Apocalypse BAF piece for about seven bucks a couple years ago. I can’t say I’m too happy with Hasbro not only lessening the quality of Marvel Legends, but now DOUBLING the price.
This is ridiculous. But, Hasbro wins. Because collectors are going to pay the ludicrous price and make the wave a huge success. And from here on out, we’ll see nothing but crappy 15 dollar figs on the pegs from Hasbro. Well, I’m just not going to pay that. I think I might be officially done with Marvel Legends.
And here’s the link to the news release on Hasbro’s official site, in case you think I’m just making all of this up!

WHAT!? This has to be a misprint by some idiot who has no idea what’s going on right? Or just a joke… ok You got me! That’s a good one…I have been waiting and praying and griping with friends about a FINg Fang Foom for years. Hasbro…hasbro…I make this vow…despite how cool they may be in the future…I will have a FFFoom but after that…I cannot stand to use the word never but I will never buy another Hasbro figure again if this is true. Yep…and I know my brother will not. He probably will not buy the Hulks. I can pretty much say that at least 12 or so collectors who are friends of mine will not buy hasbro anymore. This is like the stupidist thing ever…in a world of stupidity. Do they think…what do they think? They think they are Marvel Select? I don’t buy Marvel Select…well ok I do have Thanos and Mephisto and the Zombies but that’ scause they didn’t make Legends of them. Hasbro I hope you read this. If this is true I will never buy anything…not just Marvel but anything! from Hasbro again…I …mean it….I am so upset right now super-articulated toys guy…I have to go.
i’m right there with you andrew. i think i burst a blood vessel somewhere behind my right eye when i read the hasbro news release. marvel legends was my main line. it was the line that got me into collecting action figures. it’s gonna be tough to see it go, since there are so many characters left that deserve to be made, but i’m not going to support hasbro anymore. i enjoy the 25th gi joe line as well, but i might drop it too if i go for a full hasbro boycott. these hulk figures better be some freakin’ works of art if they expect us to pay that much for them.
at least we have mattel and dcuc to serve as a shining beacon of hope to counteract hasbro’s dark ways…
Bloody frick. The worst part of it for me is that I’m never in it for the BAFs anyway — I just grab a couple of characters that I like here and there. Personally I’d prefer it if they dropped the BAF pieces altogether and offered the larger figures individually (in which case, with ML, I’d at least have broken down and gotten Apocalypse and Galactus — and maybe even a HML Blob), but in my view the BAF pieces are supposed to be extras. They shouldn’t be driving up the price! That just sucks. I do like that She-Hulk figure — something tells me she’d make a nice base for a regular-sized Giganta repaint (provided Mattel doesn’t announce one in the near future) — but I’m not sure I want to pay $15 for her.
Can’t say I’d boycott Hasbro altogether, though — I do like me some Transformers, and the Venom-former should be a fun addition to the collection.
you make a really interesting point, wes. this puts so much focus/value on the BAF piece that it pretty much alienates any buyers who don’t build the BAFs. As a completist, I don’t even think of these waves in terms of single figures anymore, but if i were the type to just cherry pick the line and buy only the figs i really want, this would make that impossible. it’s like paying an extra five bucks for nothing. if hasbro can’t cost out a large-scale BAF like Foom, then why do him at all as a baf? They could easily just sell the complete Foom fig as a “mega” sized marvel legend for 50 bucks or something. does hasbro even have a market research department?!
Yeah !! I would easily prefer to spend 50 or even 60 bucks on FFFoom by himself! I would love to pick and choose only the figs I want and still have the big thing. Man I even said that to my brother before the BAFS became a thing… I said “They should do FFFoom as a 30” figure” Man that hurts to hear something that would be so cool and have to deal with the reality of what Hasbro will do.
It makes me even happier that DC finally decided to make some good figures. Cause now I can spend my money on them and not have to worry about Marvel, although it is true that there are a lot of characters from Marvel that I want.
Oh one thing i thought about that is not exactly related…Hasbro if they were really smart…instead of complaining about what Toybiz did…they should re-release their own versions of ToyBiz variants or chase figs…I never got a Stealth (blue) Iron Man or the 1st chase Red Skull for example and not having that blue Iron Man kills me.
I feel like Hasbro has been the ultimate destruction for Marvel Legends.
Their campaign is now, “Half the quality for double the price!”
the hell with hasbro???? so the friggin BAF is not going to be bigger that a juggernaut or sasquatch from toy biz, but also is going to cost twice the price that toy biz marvel legends, that beside better quality used to have some cool extras like stands and comics???? well fuck you hasbro, i can tell thats gonna kill marvel legends at least out of USA, and others country wich hasbro dont export all the collecctions, the cost is just going to be extremely exagerated for non americans collecctors, i think that superarticulated guy was right when he said that hasbro is not interested on marvel legends and this line is a torn by their side, because their limited and tiny minds just care about uglys movie versions…they are trying to kill marvel legends, but the sadly thing is there gonna be a lot of frikis buyng these…by me, im done with marvel legends if that come truth…
sorry fot the mistakes again and the eaten words, i posted from my job when no one see me x____x
Hasbro is retarded…I think they’re purposely killing the line.
Hasbro knows what fans want…the know how to read…they have people reading the boards.
They KNOW the line is going down hill and they’re pushing it further down. They can’t be that dumb to know that this line will survive.
I see Marvel Legends gathering dust in every store that has them.
heh. it’s funny, because “every store that has them” is pretty much just wal-mart at this point. I haven’t seen Target or TRU stock Legends since HML1, early last year. They just don’t move like the ToyBiz figs did, so retailers are ordering less. I think that’s why Hasbro had such a “strong” showing at toy fair compared to a year ago when they showed nothing. Marvel Legends isn’t a sure deal anymore. Retailers aren’t going to pick up new lines just because they have the name “marvel legends” tied to them.
Well, after toy fair… could be that hasbro is considering about the marvel legends line? as superarticulated guy said, they were steady and strong at toy fair, even when im not 100% happy about what they show, and the way the hulk series is coming out (two series), the foom figure is bigger than the web said, and the two packs (never thougt ill said this) are pretty cool, not to mention the box set from savage land… and the news of jesse going shoulder to shoulder with hasbro. but, we cant forget tha hasbro always change the prototypes to worse, and are masters of photoshop…oh and those prices per figure is not good neither….
Have you guys seen the lastest from NYCC?
These aren’t going to be 14.99. Or even 15.99.
