2008 NY Toy Fair Coverage - DC
Mattel started off by showing some Comic-Con exclusives from the DCUC line - a repaint of Mr. Freeze, and re-releases of Knight Shadow Batman and Black Costume Superman. Meh. See those here. But then… Wizard showed us this video that takes a tour of each manufacturer’s booth. When they get to the Mattel booth, get ready to pause the video and check out the glimpses of DCUC product on show! Expand the post to read my run-down of everything shown so far.
The most exciting thing, to me, are the outstanding prototypes of Wonder Woman and Cyborg from the DCUC line. Wonder Woman looks absolutely perfect, and Cyborg is equally impressive. I’m very eager to see more from Mattel on their media day on Tuesday. You can see images here.
You’ll also notice in the video lots of smaller scale DC characters. These are from the new 3 3/4″ ‘Infinite Heroes’ line from Mattel. The idea is to be able to quickly build large collections of DC character, with an emphasis on army builders like GCPD officers or Thanagarian soldiers. While I’m not big on this scale, it is exciting to see these DC characters in action figure form. It just gets me that much more excited for the 4H DCUC renditions of these guys! From the video, I can make out: Jim Gordon w/ Gotham Police Officers box set; A Hawkman with two Thanagarian Soldiers pack; A new Supergirl and new Bizarro with Wonder Girl; Black Canary, Green Arrow, and Green Lanter in a ‘Hard Traveling Heroes’ set; The Flash (classic Garrick Flash!), Black Adam, and Weather Wizard in a JSA set. Pretty darn awesome from a character selection stand-point. There are pretty good pics of these figures here.
As I mentioned earlier, Mattel’s major day of Toy Fair isn’t until Tuesday. So I’m hoping to have some major updates in the next day or two. Perhaps we’ll see some more Dark Knight movie figures or even get the line-up for the fourth series of DCUC. Stay tuned!

You know, I was relieved to read that the majority of those figures will be in the 3 3/4″ scale — I seriously feared for my finances for a moment there. (Black Canary may make a nice pocket good luck charm, though.) And while Wonder Woman and Cyborg look great, I already own some fantastic (though admittedly less-articulated) DCD representations of these characters, so I may pass on them unless the wave is padded with other cool characters and a BAF I want to assemble.
I am totally prepared to mark for some of the hyper Dark Knight figures, though — I wants mah superarticulated Ledger Joker. So stay tuned I shall!
Well, im disapointed those figures dont come out in 6″ scale, specially the box sets, anyway, the wonder woman and ciborg are perfect, im on them…
If you notice the pictures of the Infinite Heroes figures, there is a picture of The Question! I guess this means they’ve reached a deal to include the Charlton characters, and we can look forward to having a 6 inch Question figure! YAY!
Man those figures of Wonder woman and Cyborg are cool!!!!!!!!
I wonder what the other 3 figures of the set and the build a figure’s going to be?
Gotta buy cases of these things!
So far, Wonderwoman, Aquaman, Green Lantern….CAN’T wait to collect the Big 7!!!!!
We need a MODERN batman, a better sculpted superman with a better sculpted cape, a Flash, Martian Manhunter!
THEN, Green Arrow and HAWKMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THEN, Atom!
Mattel if you’re reading…Atom could come with translucent sizes of himself…the regular figure, a translucent medium sized and a tiny sized Atom figure to show him using his powers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!
Plastic Man would be a cool Build A figure
And I WANT A CAPTAIN MARVEL!!!!!!!!!
GOOD JOB MATTEL! Lovin’ this site!
Actually, one gripe about Wonder Woman….I really do think her gold belt should have been a bit higher up…the tip of the arch going close to the bottom of her chest “W” like it normally is.
There’s too much red on her stomach area. Looks plain. I’m just surprised the 4 Horsemen chose to take that route.
Is it me or is Mattel, making most of the core characters “classic” looking? I’m guessing they’re doing this to keep the line going by putting out better sculpts and current costume designs for their future releases.
It also seems like they’re showing early pics of variants and regular figures and seeing which one people like more to decide which the REAL variant will be between the two figures. Just a thought since I was looking forward to the modern red tornado variant. Oh well.
I have to say I like the character selection so far. It seems with each series we are getting two or so major characters that most people would recognize instantly, and then the rest of the series is comprised of “fan” characters. I also think they are doing a good job of giving us heroes and villains.
Not only are they giving us characters to form the Justice League, but now with the reveal of Cyborg, and the previous announcement of Tim Drake’s Robin in series 3 makes it look like we are getting the Teen Titans!
