HML Savage Land Box Set Revealed
TheFwoosh has broken through with a great big ole juicy promo pic of the upcoming SDCC exclusive “Savage Land” box set from Hasbro. This is the set with Ka-Zar, Shanna the She-Devil, and Zabu. At first glance, these look really good. Now get ready for my nit-picks! Shanna has Hasbro-itis, being chock full of swivel joints. I think she might be a reuse of the Savage She-Hulk body from the upcoming HML Hulk wave. Bleh. Ka-Zar, overall, looks pretty darn good. But upon closer examination, he appears to be reusing the ToyBiz Face-Off Punisher body. Why does a guy with bare skin have sculpted clothing wrinkles?! Seriously, Hasbro! Zabu, naturally, is a repaint of the Sigma6/8″ GI Joe Adventure Team tiger. So, he’s blocky and angular and anime looking and totally doesn’t fit in with the rest of the line. Oh well. Since these are really early pics I’m crossing my fingers that some of the smaller kinks (Ka-Zar’s wrinkles) will be worked out before production. I’m curious to see what, if any, changes Hasbro makes in response to fan feedback.

Dudes, i was really exciting about this box set, and now im pretty disapointed (my bad for trusting hasbro). the kazar looks ok, but i agree with the coments of superarticulated guy, and zabu…this was the figure that i was more exiting about (maybe because is the first animal figure from the series) and look at that crap…the imaginext’s sabretooth looks more detailed than this bedrock’s pet, has no fur at all and those friggin joints… otherwise, Shanna is pretty good, and i dont care the savage she-hulk, so i dont have problem with the sculpt, but must suck to people that was looking forward to get both figures….
Mmmm… swivel hinges notwithstanding, I so want that Shanna. (Not enough to go to SDCC and/or pay secondary market fees for the set, but yeah.) I find your observation about Ka-Zar hilarious, though — I probably wouldn’t have noticed it, but you’re on point regarding the sculpted creases and folds on his bare skin. Maybe he’s wearing a full body flesh-colored stocking?
I kinda like Zabu, but you may be right that he’s a bit too angular in comparison to the look of the other figures. Be glad Hasbro isn’t responsible for the potential superarticulated MOTU figs, though — I’m almost certain you’d see the Sigma 6 tiger make two more repaint appearances.
I want Shanna. Have the Sigma 6 tiger and he’s great in the Sigma 6 collection. This one…not so much. Ka-Zar’s hinged chest really bugs me so pass, pass, pass. GIve me a single carded Shanna and all will be right.
yeah, that sigma6 tiger is one of my favorite figures from the sigma6 line! it’s awesome!
but, not so awesome for marvel legends. they could have at least retooled it to give it a little more “realistic” texture or something.
shanna is growing on me. the articulation isn’t there, but hasbro does make a nice looking female figure. i just hope her head doesn’t get “pinched” in production like a lot of their other females.
I expected something like this when Hasbro first got Marvel. The Sigma 6 tiger almost has the articulation it needs but comes up short for Marvel legends status. I would love to see a line of animals that do have what it takes to compare with true Marvel Legends…this tiger would have been a good place to start but …oh well…The BAF Grodd from DCU series doesn’t seem to have the articulation it needs to please me either.
I would still like to have this set though…The Shanna does look nice…I will not be going to any conventions soon but assume some website store will offer the set or will there be another way to acquire it???
i’m assuming this set will be available on HTS.com after the convention. most of the hasbro’s other recent exclusives have made it to the web store. and i think the she-hulk and stan lee exclusives from last year are still available now. heh.
