First Look: Iron Man Movie Figures
Well, I finally got a hold of an Iron Man movie figure - the Mark III armor version. He arrived in the mail yesterday (via TRU.com). The street date for these figures is today, coincidentally, but I made a toy run this morning and none of the stores in my area have stocked them. Yet, according to toy forums all across the internets, these are apparently overflowing in the aisles of Wal-Marts nationwide, just not here (in NC). Sigh. I digress! I plan to do a more complete review of this line in the Marvel section once I get them all, but for now I couldn’t wait to throw up some pics of this first fig to whet your Iron Man appetite.
EDIT - I’ve added “Stealth Ops” Iron Man and started a full post here.

Wow no wonder we both have crappy figure hunting luck, I live in NC too! What part of the state do you live in if you don’t mind me asking?
I live just outside of Charlotte. I think scalping is a pretty big problem here.
I live in a little town called Whiteville which is
about 50 miles north west of Wilmington. I actually work at Wal-Mart so I was pretty ticked when I found out we werent gonna carry DCUC. We never get anything. No Iron Man yet….
I just got my first Iron Man figure yesterday! (I’m in Southern California) and I opted for one as it was an unexpected find. I chose the removable armor figure because it reminded me of my older IM figures where I got to see Stark’s face. It’s a solid figure, but the loose parts are small and tend to get easily lost. The chest plate it a soft rubbery plastic so I’m not afraid of snapping any pieces when I remove it. His articulation is decent with pretty much the same as you listed except that his wrists don’t move and his torso either (I’m guessing because they’re both removable). Overall, great figure and I recommend picking it up with the rest of the set!
Well I spoke too soon. We just got a display of Iron Man stuff at my Wal-Mart. The only weird thing is that we have the Wal-Mart exclusive Stealth Operations Iron-Man (War Machine), two playsets (not for figures, the kids dress up type), and the big light up Repulsor Ray Iron Man, but no regular figures. I thought about getting the big Repulsor Ray Iron Man but it is out of scale with The ML Icons line. Shame, it would have looked good with me unmasked Captain America (Civil War Scene!)
Hmmm… I wonder if my walmart will stock today. i might have to swing by there on the way home. even if it’s just for the exclusive war machine (stealth ops IM).
I’ve got the Galactus series War Machine so don’t see myself getting the movie one. I’m hesitant to load of on movie figures in advance of reviews at this site or in case the movie stinks. Granted Ghost Rider was terrible but Hasbro offered up some real solid figures (Caretaker, Icons Ghost Rider, Flame Cycle G.R.) in that toyline so there goes that theory. The Hasbro G.R. figures dispelled the whole theory that Hasbro couldn’t do decent paint applications. Actually proved that their subpar with ML paint apps is just a deliberate move to p’ off the collectors ;-). Anyway, ToyBiz’s Icons Iron Man (either yellow or gold) are both solid so I recommend getting him for your Icons collection is Repulsor I.M. is out of scale. I’ve got my Icons I.M. next to my maskless Icons Capt. America and they do look great together!!!
after reading here again, i ran to my walmart, and saw the same display case with the walmart exclusive war machines. picked up two simply because these figures will probably be overflowing in the next months. opened one up, and i have to say, its a nice figure barring tendecy to nitpick. hasbro has really improved on these figures. its a champ. can’t wait for the rest of the line. the only mod so far was notching the back of the helmet so the head can look up.
Grabbed Warmachine by accident actually. Went to Wal-mart for cat litter and BAM all over the place. My Wal-Mart only had 12″ Iron Man, Warmachine, and Iron Man Mask with Disc launcher.
yeah, that seems to be the display that most wal-marts are getting. not sure why they would fill an aisle display with nothing but the one same action figure, but whatevs. i’m sure the others will be easy enough to find. (hopefully). i’m just glad that they’re coming out a couple months ahead of the movie. if the movie is really popular, i bet the regular mk IIIs will become tough to find.
I know this thread is about the Iron Man movie figures, but there hasn’t been any DCUC news posted lately and I didn’t want to post something in an old thread and risk you guys not seeing it. I don’t know if it is old news or not but I saw a picture in Lee’s Toy Guide of the DCUC Wonder Woman and man does it look awesome. She also appears to come with an axe, shield, and spear! They also mentioned that the rest of the wave 4 would be announced at the NY Comic-Con.
oh yeah. believe me, i’m all over the dcuc news! we’re just in a lull right now. NYCC is in mid April, and i’m sure we’ll hear a lot of exciting news there. and I’ve been scouring my local targets for DCUC2 - which is out right now - but haven’t had and luck finding them yet. it’s killing me, actually. i’m almost tempted to just break down and pay ebay scalper prices for them. but i’m trying to hold out…
So far we’ve seen Cyborg and Wonder Woman from DCUC4 - and they both look mighty excellent!
dear uncle
do not worry about the iron man i
have 1 now but if you want 1
call toy r us. and ask if they will put them on
shelfs they will do it
love GWT see ya soon love ya
Yea I’ve been pretty ticked about the DCUC 2 being out in some stores and I don’t have my preorder yet…….
Well, the word is that online stores (CSC, at least) are getting their cases this week. Apparently there was some sort of shipping delay from China. I really hope this is the last “they’re on their way!” message and it’s for real this time!
oh, and I found MKII and the Target Exclusive Silver Centurion Iron Man yesterday. I didn’t get a chance to take pics last night, so I’ll try to get them up on the site this evening.
i picked up a lone SC at target. its looks good with its glossy finish. its a home run hit. with a little head notch in the back so he can look up, the SC is perfect.
yeah, the SC is pretty darn cool. The paint is so crisp and I’ve always preferred silver to gold. just looks sleeker and more imposing.
I’ve added pics of the target exclusive and the mark II to the post in the marvel section.
You know i’m starting to feel ripped off looking at my Iron Man toys. I mean seriously Iron Man MK 1, 2, 3, War machine, Silver centurion are all the same toys. They’re either a repaint or in War machine’s case added guns.
i see where you’re coming from, lantern. for me, though, it’s kind of like the halo figs. Iron Man is a property that lends itself well to simple repaints. I mean, Iron Man is kinda like Batman in that he has a different armor prepared for any situtation, so I like having a lot of different paint schemes lined up on the shelf. it’s like a little iron man armory. but, if you’re not all that into IM, then I can definitely see how these would feel like a rip off since they are all basically the same toy.
…they’re the same toy at $10 a pop without the awesome display bases, accessories, included comic, and/or BAF piece that Toybiz was slamming us with every other Marvel Legends wave a few years ago for $7-$8 a pop. For fans who are just getting onboard its a quick way to plow $50 into a 6″ Iron Man Hall of Armor display. If you’re loaded up on Iron Men from the Toybiz days you’re probably better advised to just stick to the figures that look the best to you or get the biggest thumbs up here at Superarticulated.com!! Then get the remainders when they hit the clearance aisle at KBToys or TRU in 6 months. Or if the movie bombs you can safely avoid the bulk of these with a clear conscious.
Yep. Your bring up some interesting points, Rich. In response to cost - 10 dollars for a fig - no base or BAF piece or anything - is the norm now, and we (collectors) are just going to have to begrudgingly accept it. Call it inflation, rising oil cost, whatever. That’s just the way it is. I expect BAF figs will go up a dollar or two this year. And high-quality secondary market stuff already runs 15-20 bucks a pop. Toys are just getting expensive.
And I agree with what you said about the Iron Man figures not adding anything new to the old ToyBiz Iron Mans that were released. I don’t consider this a comic property. These are movie toys. If I were reviewing them for their inclusion with Marvel Legends, they’d get lower marks. They’re too small. Considerably undersized next to old TBML figs. And a couple of the figs are just lousy. The MKI (which I haven’t actually seen at retail yet) seems really small, with “pinhead” syndrome. And I couldn’t care less about the snap-on armor figure.
But, these are movie toys aimed mostly at kids. Which is why I’m so impressed that Hasbro gave them the articulation and detail that they did. It’s a sign that big H is realizing kids alone don’t make these lines successful (See the disaster that was Spider-Man 3 figs). You have to cater to both crowds. So we get some good figures, some with weird action features, and a bunch of repaints. That’s pretty much par for the course.
And yeah, if you’re unsure about any of these, by all means, wait for clearance! If the movie tanks, you’ll see these in bargain bins everywhere. Conversely, however, if the movie is a huge hit, we might see something like the Transformers movie toys where there will be literally nothing on the pegs for months. But I don’t see Hasbro letting that happen again.
