2008 NYCC - DC

img_7784__scaled_600.jpgOkay, fellas. Get ready to pick your jaws up off the floor. If ever there were a “toygasm” moment - this is it. Mattel announced the line-ups for the next couple of waves of DCUC. And great googly-moogly is the upcoming year going to be a great one for DC fans! Expand the post to see the full list of upcoming sweetness.

(FYI - This content was blatantly stolen from TNI. They have pics too!)

“There will be 6 waves of figures released, total, in 2008.

Wave 4: Cyborg, Batman Beyond, Captain Atom, Wonder Woman and Ares. The C&C is Despero, who will include several accessories and stands at 8 1/2 inches. Variants will be Artemis and a gold Captain Atom.

There will be a bonus wave of DCUC, available exclusively at Walmart, but not to panic - it will be shipping throughout the year, so it should be easy to find. Mattel is trying to secure international shipping, so overseas collectors won’t be left out. It will be available in the Fall.

The Walmart wave features Amazo, Atom, Riddler (in his business suit), Eradicator and Black Lightning (shaved head version). The BAF is Metallo.

Wave 6 will be available in late Fall. 3 characters were shown - Hawkman (who will have some wing articulation), Superman (in his black suit and hippy hair) and Mr. Miracle.

Coming this August the first wave of Toys R Us exclusive 2-packs will ship. Wave one has Batgirl and Azreal; Light Ray and Orion (with removable helmet).

There will be a DCUC San Diego Comic Con exclusive - Lobo and his Dog! Lobo will have weapons and chains. He will be 7 1/2 inches tall.”

Despero?! Batman Beyond?! Hawkman?! Metallo?!

This is so the best action figure line ever!

  1. Atom and Metallo are my most anticipated.

SAG what do you think of the Walmart series….kinda reminds me of the Giantman series where you have these “meh” figures but are really great great BAF!

The Amazo’s just not too great for me now. He’s face should be a bit more eviler.

HAWKMAN is what I want to see…I don’t know if they’ll put photos of it up!

I’m surprised they didn’t add Flash, Martian Manhunter. LOBO is cool with his funny bull dog! Course I think he killed his dog or something….on purpose.

Not a fan of Batman Beyond so hopefully figure looks good.

As for Toys R Us and Walmart Exclusive…not really happy about that since gas prices are insane now and that TRIPLES my driving route…yeeeesh!

  2. Wow! I’m loving almost everyone of those figures they’ve announced! I’m going to SDCC again this year so I really hope I get that Lobo! And when I saw that they were releasing a Batman Beyond figure I was in shock! I loved the cartoon and I can’t wait to finally get a super artic figure of McGinnis! :D

  3. actually, i think the line-up for the wal-mart wave is pretty fantastic. I’m excited about each of those figures just as much as I am about metallo.

and i love the Timm DCAU, so a Batman Beyond figure is aces for me.

Yes. I’m definitely going to have to find a way to get a hold of that Lobo figure. total awesomeness.

man… so much great stuff coming out right now. this is going to be an expensive year!

  4. I’m so happy I have tears in my eyes! Finally, major toy company + quality sculpting + plausible/funtional articulation + fan-friendly character selection + reasonable quantity/availability = superb line! May this ” Universe” never experience a collapse!!!!!

  5. I’m not terribly thrilled about Metallo — I’d have been fine with a regular-sized Metallo and some other character as the BAF (no Giganta = sadness) — but I’m all about everyone else in that wave with the possible exception of the Eradicator. Black Lightning, Atom, and Riddler (+1 Legion of Doom) are ace! I like the Despero wave, though admittedly I’m not terribly excited about him either since DCD will be putting out an awesome Despero later this year (and I much prefer that look to the Total Justice version). Ah well.

And too bad I’m not going to SDCC — Lobo and Giganta are ace as well!

  6. First of all, really upset they don’t have the Flash int the upcoming waves. with that said. I am really excited about hawkman! And Im completely tired of the amount of Supermen that are coming out, they need a darker verison of Batman. I \am really happy on how these toys are coming to me they are the greatest toys ever. But finding them is just harsh, Im working at Toys R Us and still have a rough time finding them. that being said heres my want list:( If anyone cares) Static X, Blue beetle, Apache chief, Samurai (from Superfriends) Captian Marvel a better version of Batman! and Of Course at the top of the list; THE FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Okay, here are my reactions, overall very positive.

Cyborg we knew, and he is awesome, I actually think Batman Beyond is awesome, I never really kept up with the show but my name is Terry and I’m all for my name being associated with Batman! LOL. Captain Atom is aces. I hope it is similar in design to the JLU version because he was great on that show. We’ve seen Wonder Woman and she is gorgeous. Ares to me is the weakest of this series but I think buying one figure that I normally wouldn’t to finish the CAC figure isn’t bad. Speaking of which, Despero is just sweet! I like that he is a CAC but not as big as some others so that he is just an oversized figure. I’m not sure how Artemis fits as a Wonder Woman variant, but I don’t know much about the character.

Amazo as I’ve said before, underwhelms me but that is because of character design, not the sculpt or paint. Still a decent figure to have. Atom looks great and I can only hope he comes with a tiny version of himself! Riddler looks great to me and I’m excited about him because I love Batman’s rogues gallery. I also like that they are going with his modern look rather than the green spandex. Eradicator I have no interest in, but once again, buying one extra figure to finish the CAC isn’t bad. Black lightning I’m happy with since he is a major part of the current Justice League line up, and of course the CAC Metallo is SWEET, although I was hoping for a human version with half ripped off face lol.

Hawkman I’m very happy with as a choice and I’m just hoping for a huge ripped version lol. Superman in the black suit I’m okay with but it just pushes back a better version of classic Superman that I really want. Mr. Miracle is a good choice and one I’m happy with. One of the other two has got to be a villain and I would totally freak out if the last two were Flash and Captain Cold! Also, I wonder who the CAC figure will be? Any guesses from you guys?

Batgirl and Azreal I will defiantly get since I missed both in the DCSH line, although I’d prefer the modern Batgirl. Orion and Light Ray I will probably skip because I already have series one Orion, don’t really need one with a removable helmet, and Light Ray I can pass although the figure does look good. I hope these aren’t the only two packs in the first series. I’m jonesin for the following two packs: Catwoman/Modern Batgirl, Clayface/Two-Face. I’d also like to get my hands on a re-release, or new version of Mr. Freeze!

So those are my thoughts, as I said overall positive.

  8. Im goign bananas about all this (* w *)

  9. fwoosh has some excellent pics up in their gallery:

    http://www.thefwoosh.com/pics/thumbnails.php?album=1038

wonder woman and artemis are blowing my mind.

  10. Batman Beyond looks pretty cool. How does his mask form a smile though?

In my opinion, I think Black Lightning and Eradicator are the weakest…..I really dislike those shades Eradicator has….he looks like a welder or something.

Captain Atom looks pretty plain. Wonder Woman looks cool but I really think the females should be a bit bigger…their torso’s are sooooo small.

I know this is all comic book style stuff but the females in the comics aren’t this small compared to the men.

  11. Agreed, Chris — I’d like to see a Wonder Woman figure that puts Superman in his place. New Frontier-big WW, please.

And I dunno why I was expecting Artemiz for the WW variant! Artemis is the much more sensible choice, even if Artemiz would have been cooler IMHO. ;)

  12. I’m so excited by everything I’m seeing from Mattel for the DCUC line! Such a wide array of characters, the sculpts are beautiful, the paint applications are gorgeous, the BAFs are awesome, etc. I can’t say enough about the line.

I’m so excited to get my hands on Wonder Woman, Black Lightning, Atom, Amazo, Cyborg, Artemis, etc!

I just know that this line will be around for a LONG time if they keep up the great work. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for this line!

    Craig

  13. I’m excited about every single figure. I’m definitely going to fall of the cliff into completionism, something I’ve never done before. I think every single one of these figures is great, and the variants are awesome - I’m going to hunt each one down. I don’t even know half of these characters, but the figures look so good I’ll be doing my best to get all of them.

Outstanding ones include Eradicator, Despero, Wonder Woman, Lobo, Gold Captain Atom, Batman Beyond, etc…

Still want to see Martian Manhunter, Flash and Reverse Flash, but I can wait.

  14. Mister Miracle???!!!!! YES!!!!!! Maybe Barda WIll be the C & C Figure in his series…Kirby’s DC Characters finally get mainstream recognition of their awesomeness with awesome figures!!!!!! Also…all of the new figs look sweet…and i must own them all. Hawkman? Awesome. Must see a photo of him…I think i will go breathe into a paper bag now.

  15. Too much to say too much to see…love all that I see, I think.
Wish I saw Manhunter and I want to know how hard it will be to get or how much I am gonna have to pay to get that Lobo!

Love that they are doing Ares, would not have thoughtTo see him except that I knew they would not do Cheetah and WW in the same series cause doing two females would be asking too much.

LOVE that they’re doing Hawkman. SAG do you know if the batgirl is the rerelease of the one from the ill fated Two-Face line or if it is the one they released as a two pack with Bats? Did they do anything different with Azrael? Shiny paint job etc…

Nice to see WalMart is back in the game, even if it means exclusives. Could not see well the articulation on Metallo or Despero, hope they are as good as Grundy looks!

  16. Andrew,

If you go on action figure insider, they’ll post pics of slides Mattel showed at the con and it is the Batgirl with the blue cape and NOT from the Two face series. As for Azrael, there’s a photo that show’s part of the figure and it doesn’t seem like they changed much.

Although, I’m guessing they’re going to repaint all of those rereleases…could be wrong but that’s my guess.

  17. Hmmmm. It would kind of be a shame if they re-released the first batgirl from the 2packs. I mean, she was on clearance at Target for 3.48 at one point. The Cassie version, on the other hand, was not to be seen at all by many collectors.

  18. Considering that this Batgirl is the one “rare” DCSH figure I actually had all along — I got her and Bats for $10.48 at Target; never saw them dip lower than that! — I’m admittedly a little miffed about her inclusion in that two-pack. They could at least have given her a black/yellow DCAU redeco (or even a black/purple “The Batman”-style outfit) or something! And while I do like the idea of Orion with a removable helmet, I hate that it’s being released so soon after the first version hit (if I’d known, I would have waited!) and alongside an all-new figure. Considering how “rare” the original blue Darkseid seems to be (I could only find the DCAU-style blue-black variant for a decent price when I went hunting for him), I’d have preferred it if they’d packed Orion with the original Darkseid release.

Come to think of it, a blue Darkseid redeco in that JLU six-pack would also have been ideal. The black version has seen what, three prior releases? At least? Sigh. The only thing worse than releasing tons of redecos is not even bothering. :/

  19. Actually Action FIgure Insider does show a slide that shows the Barbara Gordon twopack batgirl with blue cape as the figure for the two pack. No sign of the Cassandra figure. I also did see Azrael.

I’m pretty excited about the Cyborg figure the most! Can’t wait.

  20. MAN! I may actually be angry at Mattel now!! I really need that Cassie!!!(oh yeah thanks for reminding me about her name!)
Well thanks Chris. Maybe they’ll do her later without the Azrael…I have him anyway…
I was also a little taken aback by the Orion…I wondered why they didna’ have his helmet removable originally. Hasbro did the same thing recently with Green Goblin (movie version) They release him with that crappy Sandman BAF and now with their new line but with actual pumpkin bombs you can play with and helmet.

  21. Well, as much as we all love Mattel for the wonderful job they’re doing, we have to accept that they’re still a major toy company and random repaints and reissues are going to happen. I know Mattel has expressed that they’re pretty committed to getting out some of the older harder to find DCSH figs in some form, so I suspect eventually in these 2packs we’ll be seeing cassie batgirl, steel, kara supergirl, etc. but, to get those, we’re gonna have to put up with a few removable helmet orions along the way.

  22. Note To Mattel: Two-Face and Clayface PLEASE!

  23. I’m super pissed. I just had my hands on the Joker figure from The Dark Knight and wasn’t allowed to purchase it because of the street date…….

  24. Argh! I hate street dates for toys for that reason. Was it at TRU, fryman? They seem to be the only ones who do that to their customers.

  25. Yep it sure was. The thing that really made me pissed was that they said a guy tried to buy them the day before when they were accidentaly placed on the shelf, and I’m thinkin’, well how bout getting them the %@&# to the back so this doesn’t keep happening! The good news was that I did pick up Harley from DCUC Wave 2, and even though she was the only one left (I’m always late), they had rearranged their shelving to include three peg positions for DCUC! This is the same amount they have for Marvel Legends so it looks like Target and Toys R Us are in for the long haul with DCUC! Now Wal-Mart just needs to hurry up. I heard they are going to start carrying DCUC with Wave 3.

  26. Yeah as much as I despise Wal-Mart, I prefer buying toys there to Target or TRU. For some reason, Target treats all of their customers like scalpers and refuses to ever stock more than one of any given figure at any time. And then TRU just seems really reluctant to sell action figures at all, like they’re making a conscious effort to discourage adult collectors from shopping there. Shrug. Wal-Mart, on the hand, cares about nothing but money, which is as it should be!

  27. Yeah tell me about it. My local Target just restocked DCUC…………..WAVE ONE! WTF?!
