First Look: NECA TMNT!

I got a hold of two of the four turtles from NECA’s first series of new TMNT figs… and man, I’m really liking them! I’ve got the partial review up (Leo and Mike) in the Indie section. So click over to read my geeky thoughts about how awesome these are!

  1. I really want these but money is tight and I’m trying to concentrate on DCUC. They do look great though. Speaking of NECA, I’m still waiting for those Ghostbusters figures! Damn you Bill Murry!

  2. i’m being picky on what i buy now a days because i simply don’t have enough space, and thought long and hard about even considering these new figures. but i picked them up, and i have to say that they meet the hype. comic style figures like these and the hellboy comic line are my favorites. more styled figures like these need to me made. the TMNT figures are incredible. buy one, and you’ll see you need the other 3.

  3. similar experience for me, plain_sliced. I was going to pass because i wasn’t really familiar with the all-red bandanna look and would have preferred “cartoon” colors. But once I got a hold of one, I just had to have them.

Toy collecting is getting too expensive these days, so the only things that i’m going to be picking up are figures like this - that really pack in a bang for the buck. I’m done with marvel legends and gi joe. it’s pretty much just DCUC and lines like TMNT for me now.

  4. I agree with SAG, is good that toy collecting is something more “normal” these days, but toy companies have seen the chance of this, and they are over exploting it. so… are you really leaving marvel legends???? what if the line get well done finally as seen on the NYCC???? i mean, i think ill have to stop collecting one line, because the expensive of these ones, and im not from the states, so more expensive for me… im just curious about it, didnt think that north american collectors were at the same postion than me…

  5. Mr Cooltoy,

Trust me, we are feeling the prices too! I’ve been cherry picking the ML since Hasbro took over, basically just getting Yellowjacket, Astonishing Cyclops, Danger, and that Limited Edition Silver Surfer. If the character selection + quality was always there, I wouldn’t mind getting entire waves for the BAF but I can’t justify it with Hasbro’s Legends. DCUC on the other hand has shown us quality as well as good character selection. I mean there are a few that I wouldn’t have bought, but since the quality is so good I don’t mind picking them up for the BAF parts, besides Metamorpho, Grodd, and Grundy would all be must have figures for me if they were just standard figures in a wave, so kudos to the 4 Horseman for picking characters that guarentee them my money!

  6. Does anybody have any idea who series 2 might have for the Neca TMNT?

  7. Mr. Cooltoy - Yep, like fryman said, dropping ML is mostly a cost thing for me. With all toys going up in price this year, something’s got to give. Plus, i just don’t have room for everything. many of my toys are just piled up in rubbermaid tubs at the moment! so i may still cherry-pick ML if a must-have character comes out here and there, but even with the apparent increase in quality, they still don’t match up with my old ToyBiz legends. And if I have to choose between ML and DCUC as my “main” line to collect, well, the choice is obvious.

Guyver2 - the only other figure we’ve seen is April (with Mousers!), so I think she’s a lock for series 2. Outside of that, there are strong rumors for Casey Jones and Foot Soldiers, but we haven’t seen protos of those yet. I would also assume that Shredder is going to show up sooner rather than later. And the 4H rather overtly mentioned Fugitoid in an interview. So, in short, I have no idea who’s going to be in series 2!

  8. Shredder and casey woooaaaww…. i dont remember how the Shredder looks on comics but it will be great, a Splinter should be the most logical thing for coming out. I heard some time before that wave 2 would be the 4 turtles again but based on the draws of the other artist, just cant remenber his name rigth now. and there is a repaint of wave one black and white (i hate that kind of repaint, like the “stealth” figures)

  9. yeah, i’m not feeling the black & whites either. Seems like a waste. Had they done cartoon color figures, on the other hand, i’d have been all over those!

  10. i’m with you guys on cherry picking figures. its seldom i buy anything hasbro legends, and have stuck to DCSH, but even they have started to bombard us with stuff after stuff. it gets to the point where this collecting/ hobby is no fun anymore.

there is too much out there, and few little is good quality stuff. the mcfarlane halo stuff is good, but he just keeps milking it. thats a big turn off. iron man stuff is good, but it’ll go the way of halo; mulitple variations of the same thing.

the TMNT idea is fresh. when i play withthem or just pose them, i think ‘these are iconic figures!’ well worth the $16. the white variations don’t float my boat. they look like they are covered in chalk workingthe egyptian pyramids.

its a hard time for collectors not becasue of a shortage, but a over saturation.
