Hulk Legends Packaged Pics

hasbro hulk marvel legends hulk figureMarvelousNews has posted high-res pics of all the figures from the upcoming Hulk Legends waves (both 1 and 2). I have to admit, while Foom is pretty solid looking as the BAF, these all seem, well, kinda crappy to me. Maybe it’s just that my Marvel Legends enthusiasm has soured and the price tag on these ($15 msrp) has really turned me off to them. Shrug. What do you guys think?

  1. Yeah… I still feel all of the same feelings. Hasbro sucks!
When this was a bigger series, with Bi-Beast as one of the figures, it sounded great. Absorbing Man and She Hulk were not part of the series then and that was fine. Why? Because Toy Biz already did a good Absorbing MAn and HAsbro did a She Hulk…Note I did not say a good She Hulk. And Toy Biz did a Wendigo…it was a variant but it was not too hard to find, I got mine off of ebay for 3 bucks! It LOOKS the SAME as HAsbros! except maybe Toy Biz’s has better articulation. Also The Savage Grey Hulk looks too much like the First Appearance Hulk Toy Biz already did!
Now there are feweer characters and repeats…I mean they Hardly changed the Absorbing Man at ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hit those buttons hard! They made a BI-Beast part of the crapp…wait…CRAPPY movie line with SOOO little articulation

Hasbro ……I cannaot even think straight when I think too hard about what they are doing.

Here is the worst part. I am going to buy all of these overpriced and underdeveloped figures.
I feel like Jim Carrey (SP?) in Liar Liar. I am going to bend over and smile and say Hasbro please give it to me.
Now since I have admitted that I will say some good.
The End Hulk, Doc Samson, Son of Hulk, and King Hulk…don’t look too bad.
I think King Hulk might look the best. NONE are worth 15 bucks!
I wanted a better FFFoom but he is not bad. Does he make the series worth the money? I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT!

I wish I could get over my toy addiction when I think of Hasbro…sad because I love to love toys. I mean I guess what they are doing is better than having nothing but thet seem so underhanded with the price hike. It is cold and hurtful to loyal consumers.
But no, I will buy them, I will buy many more Hasbro figures this year too. Sad…hey I know let’s talk about Mattel and DCUC!

  2. pass. if it was better sculpted, better painted, better finished, better articulation- then yes. its worth the buck. but when you give us the same lackluster products like the first hasbro legends, and price them higher? toy fanboy, please!

i’d shell out easily $16 or a mezco comic hellboy or a neca TMNT without thinking, or even multiples at the price range because i know the superior product is the proof.

hasbro’s price hike at the retail level is their own undoing. i’f i have to think about filling up my tank or buying some cheaply looking plastic, i’d fill my tank.

  3. Andrew - more power to you!

    plain_sliced - i’m in the same boat.
gas money? power bill? groceries? mmmm hmmm.
less than spectacular toys? eh, not so much.

Plus, it seems like every company is ramping it up on articulation these days (which is my number one criterion for good action figureness). So that’s no longer enough to be a selling point for a line. Everything is superarticulated now. That’s a standard action figure feature. Gotta have good sculpts and paints to go with that. NECA is kind of blowing my mind these days. DST too.

To be able to get specialty market figures with the poseability of a Marvel Legends or DCUC has kind of ruined me for mass-market figures. Hasbro is charging specialty market prices for a mass-market figure that doesn’t even begin to compare to other figs you can get at that price. I guess they think that the characters - the Marvel brand - will sell themselves.

Me, I’m not that much of a comic book guy. I’m just a toy guy. I couldn’t care less if it’s an X-man or an Avenger or just a superarticulated mail man. If it’s a good toy, I’ll buy it and play with it. Hasbro? Not so much with the good toys.

  4. The demise of the Marvel Legends line really saddens me, because I’m a huge Marvel Fan. Sure I like collecting toys, but the reason for that is my love of the characters. However, no matter how much I love a character, I’m not putting up with $15 bucks for a mass market figure that isn’t worth the money. At least the good news is that the entire time Toy Biz was making ML, I wished for superarticulated DC figures, and now I’m getting them, so I’m happy about that.

  5. Andrew: There was a previous ML Wendigo? You mean the Sasquatch variant, or something else? I want me some Wendigo action.

SAG: Superarticulated mailman, ha! There’s your next custom project — a superarticulated mailman (or mailwoman!) should totally be the SA mascot. Given their uniforms some of those upcoming BSG figures would probably make great base figures!

But yeah, I’m in total agreement — if I’m paying $15 for a regular-sized figure, it sure as heck isn’t going to be a mass market toy. My eyes are peeled for those NECA TMNTs, though!

  6. Wes- yeah the ToyBiz Sasquatch variant was considered a Wendigo. Hasbro’s may have better facial features in that respect as the other looks just like Sasquatch but I never thought they looked that diiferent anyway. At the time I needed some Wendigo action myself.

I am sorry guys but I just have to have that FFFoom! I have a problem, maybe I need an intervention, or maybe Hasbro does! Help me help myself!
I dunno…you all are so right and I am not made of money…

    SAG…can I pre-order my mailman?

  7. expect this line to be pegwarmers. not just because of the price, but poor packaging art. this lot looks old and dated. then the figures themselves scream 1995. sad because this will keep better figures from seeing the light of day.

  8. ill just get the fing fang foom from ebay, cause i aint paying 15 each for just fing fang foom

  9. Okay, so we need an intervention for Andrew lol. The best I can come up with is to tell you to wait until the Foom BAF shows up on ebay and get it for cheaper than buying the entire set. For instance, a quick check of ebay shows that you can use buy it now to get MODOK for $25. Even the more expensive BAF on ebay are around 70 and that’s for the ones that aren’t available at retail anymore. So in essence if your patient you can get your Foom for a lot cheaper than $120.

  10. I dunno… people get kinda crazy with these eBay BAF prices. ($40 for the Grodd BAF? What-evah! Modok might be cheaper, but that’s probably because nobody wants him. I don’t even know who he is!) Andrew might be better off paying the $120! And maybe it’s just me, but Foom doesn’t look all that much different from many of the generic dragon toys out there… so perhaps he could just get the She-Hulk and do a headswap or something. I guess much of the articulation would be lost, but still…

At any rate, I wouldn’t go so far as to say that the figures scream 1995 — they look like some of Hasbro’s best ML work to me. That might not mean all that much, but still!

  11. you’ve got to keep in mind that Grodd is new. I suggested he wait awhile.

  12. This lineup still looks sad. The lack of detailing in the paint is what has made the HML line very ho hum to me. Well, that an some horrible molds like Emma Frost. Anywho, I’ll still get Doc Samson, b/c I think he’s pretty cool. Luckily, I’m not a Fin Fang Foom fan, so I really could care less about that BAF.

I so wish the original ML team would return to bring this line back to it’s glory…

    Craig

  13. Wah Wah Wah.

Guys! These are just toys! If you don’t like them, don’t but them…but based on how i can never find the figures someone buys them…I frankly don’t care that they are not the same as Toy Biz Figures, because to me —toys are toys. As long as they make Marvel Legends, I will collect them. However I do Agree that the quality has deminished since the new company has taken over the liscence, but i expected that. I mean, Toy Biz didn’t truly have amazing figures until like, the Series with Colossus(in my opinion)…Given time maybe (just MAYBE) the company will listen to the fans about the figures….maybe, i mean they seem to listen to Star Wars Fans, Right?

As far as price goes…it is high i agree..but everyone must remember… Plastic is made from OIL. And with oil at record highs at this time, the toy company needs to do something to cover the loss and that usually means a price hike, unfortunately…

I also bugs me as well, but I still will buy the Hulk series. Probably not all at once like Previous series, but i still will end up with Fin Fang Foom.

Oh well, that is my two cents on the matter. You don’t have to agree, but…well…thay are just toys.

  14. Whoa, Megatherium is right! I had no idea that oil was used to make plastic. Is this common knowledge? In any case, all of my toy dinosaurs just got that much cooler.

  15. I agree about the high cost due to oil prices and all but you don’t see DC Universe or any other mass market action figure line at $15 a figure. DC is at $10 and they put out great figures. Marvel would have to put out TWICE as great a figure as Toy Biz or Mattel to rationalize that $15 price tag.

Plus 15 bucks for what….a build a crap with crappy figures?

    Hasbro is such a comedian.

  16. Amen Chris!

Yes, oil has gone up in price and will continue to, but like Chris said, other toylines are not experiencing this dramatic of a price hike. Additionally, according to what we saw from NYCC, the HMLs coming out later this year have a $9.99 price tag. So, it REALLY does not make sense that the Hulk line has a $15 price tag.

Also, I agree, this is just a toy line, Mega. However, it also happens to be my favorite hobby, and that’s why I’m not happy with what has come out and why many of us are complaining. Just like a movie buff complains about writing in a movie, or a person who enjoys reading novels complains about the book, or a person who loves to shop might complain about the clothes in their favorite store one season. When someone is passionate about their hobby, they will complain when they don’t like something and they will rejoice when something comes out that they love. Right now, I’m rejoicing over DC Universe, Masters of the Universe Classics, and GI Joe’s 25th anniversary figures. However, I can’t rejoice over seeing how Hasbro is treating the ML line.

  17. I’m gonna have to be a total butt munch and disagree…………

Colossus came out in Series 5 and Series 4 Gambit, Beast, and Punisher, all great figures……

    I’m just sayin………

  18. Thanks Craig!

I second the praise on the Master’s of the Universe Line. Can’t wait till that comes out. I wonder if Walmart will carry them.

First time I saw news on that series I was like Collect and Connect Beast man, Clawful!!!

Wouldn’t it be CRAZY of Mattel made THUNDERCATS classics??? I think the whole “classics series” focused on collectors is a really good idea for Mattel.

  19. Chris,

Absolutely! My life would have been made if Mattel picked up the Thundercats license and did a Classics line for them. Thundercats was my fave cartoon as a kid and I’ve always wanted updated figures of them. Could you imagine what the 4H would do for Lion-O, Tigra, Panthro, Cheetara, and even Snarf?

As for Masters, I hadn’t even though of a C2C figure, but you’re right! C2C Beastman? Clawful? Moss Man? I’d just about wet my pants man! This series has so much promise. And who EVER thought we’d ever get a figure of Queen Marlina? I never in a trillion years thought I’d see that happen. Next best part of the line? Well, I have to admit that as a child I didn’t collect She-Ra toys b/c I thought they were for girls. However, I loved the cartoon, and always wanted She-Ra toys that would work with He-Man. So, now that the 4H can add She-Ra and friends to the line, this will be the first time I get my hands on some pretty cool characters introduced in that line.

All in all, this is going to be one of my fave years collecting toys!!!!

    Craig

  20. yes i agree with all of you, we complain because is our hobby and we like it, the same way a guy wacth a game of baseball and cursed every time his team had a bad inning or something, is the same. this a collector web, so the common thing is talk about that, any other way, i dont understand why you take your time to visit the page and even write, you did it because you like your hobby too, so thats it, if it would be a news web, we probably be complaining on politics or the global warming.

in other hands, i always look forward for a line from the old thundercats too, and you guys are right, cant even imagine if the 4H were related to this. (by the way i just complete my DCUC series , and my metamorpho´s legs always come off, im the only one with that problem?????????)

  21. Yeah…fryman86…i would have to agree on that.

I know…it does bug me not as as much as some…my guess would be that the hulk figures are $5 more than usual bcause FFF is larger than the other BAFs.

Yeah, my Metamorphos Legs come off as well…errrrr…

the Masters of the Universe line should be really cool…a thundercats line would be awesome as well…

I think i have been brainwashed by Hasbo anyway, cause My soul is burning fo Fin Fang Foom, i always thought he would make a good BAF…but they could have only split him up six ways, i mean, eight figures is a lot of money, especially when they look cheaper than previous releases. I would not have bought the Ultimate Wolverine if he didn’t come with Blob’s belly…I probably wouldn’t buy all 4(!!??) hulks in the series if i didn’t want to either…he is just the hulk. ;)

DCUC is also the best line out there at the moment i would have to agree…freaking awesome, actually…

  22. Maybe the next poll should be about what lines are the most anticiped for the next months, wave 3-4-5 from DCUC, Masters of the Universe Classics, Marvel Legends hulks series….

  23. Mega,

I was thinking the same exact thing about the price increase on Hulk Classics…it’s just gotta be that huge FFF BAF. I actually think he looks great, and I would totally buy the whole series if I was a fan. I’m just not a fan of FFF for the simple reason that, while I’ve collected Marvel comics for about 25 years, I have never had a comic that featured FFF, so I really don’t have a clue who he is other than what other people have told me, lol.
I will DEFINITELY be getting Doc Samson from that wave though. I like his character and I don’t think the figure looks too bad.

My MUST HAVE figure this year (since I don’t know which characters will be released in the Masters of the Universe line) would have to be DCU Wonder Woman. That figure is HOT! I can’t wait to get my hands on her!

Mr. Cooltoy, I would have to say that the lines I’m most looking forward to would be a tie between the DCU figures and the Masters figures. I just can’t choose one, lol.

    Craig

  24. Hey guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but did anybody notice the tags for the hulk figures in the pics from nycc - they say $19.99 now.

  25. Yeah, i think SAG posted pictures from that later that had the actual price (15 $). some one has photos or heard something about the Hawkman figure from DCUC????? or i got lost in traslation???

  26. WAAAIT! Mr. Cool toy did you say….someone has pics of HAWKMAN????

    WOW? Where?

  27. Chris:
what i mean is that there were realesed Photos with the tag of $15 for hulk figures after the first ones that show the absurdly $19.99 prices.

and what i mean to know is if someone in general, had heard something else from the Hawkman figure, is the only figure i heard about on NYCC coverage that has not been show yet, i hope is not been delayed. sorry if i got you confused.

  28. Actually, Hawkman, Mr. Miracle Man and The Black Suit Superman hasn’t shown up online yet.

  29. Sigh….you got my hopes up! lol

Figures Mattel wouldn’t show the two figures I wanted to see the most out of their entire character offerings for this year.

Hawkman and Mr. Miracle better be pretty sweet for them to be all hush hush about it and all. Those two and Atom were on my list awhile back…hopefully Atom comes with a shrucken version of himself!!!!!!!!! (hoping Mattel is reading this)

  30. Yeah, the 19.99 thing was supposedly a typo and the Hulk figs will be 14.99.

Hawkman, Mr. Miracle, and Black Suit Supes were shown in the slideshow that Mattel did at NYCC (I think). But they were just little fuzzy thumbs of the chest-pieces. Enough to ID who they were, but no full pics of the figs. yet.

  31. Glad to see this thread generating so much buzz! While Toybiz hit some strides after the Colossus series, it was late in their game (Series 14 Mojo series) that gave us sloppy paint apps and horrendous plastics which subjected most of those 6″ figures to either breaking or floppy doll syndrome, right out of the package. My favorite MLs tend to be the BAFs because they add so much to the display shelf for the army of 6″ figures. I feel BAF characters would be generally worth from $20 (Mojo, Modok, Blob) to $30 (Annihilus!!) to $45 (Galactus, Sentinel) if they were boxed on their own and sold as a Con or store exclusive. And FinFangFoom looks to be on the higher end of the value scale from the pics we’re seeing. I’ld be paying upwards of $50 for a single boxed FFF if he’s as awesome as the pics look. Either buy a couple of figures per month over 4 months or wait for these to hit the clearance rack if you gotta get your FinFangFoom!! jones on. Hasbro’s very own website routinely offers 20% off AND free Shipping sales.

  32. For a new toy intervention, check out the mockumentary at this link, if you will, of a fellow
Toybiz Marvel fan who now “thanks God every day that Hasbro acquired the Marvel license”…http://www.maniacworld.com/intervention-new-toy-addiction.html And yeah, I’m thinking about how awesome DCUC is for $10 a pop and how awesome Mezco comic Hellboy was for $15 a pop…which has me thinking I’m gonna be passing on the FFF series altogether….maybe get me a MegaBloks Dragon or something…

  33. Rich…you are absolutely correct!!!!!

Series 13 of Toy Biz Legends were pretty awesome, and the prototypes from series 14 looked sweet. I waited months in anticipation for Psylocke and Falcon and Luke Cage…and when they finally came out…i was like WTF?????? Psylocke - The best one by far, but the prototype looked better…and falcon? Okay he is okay…but my Falcon has TWO LEFT BICEPS!!!!!!! Uggg…forcing me to buy another one…oh and his left wrist is stuck. Also…my series 13 Abomination’s Right arm twisted right off one day i was posing him…had to buy another one of him…My X-Men series Iceman…his right hand is assembled upside down…grrrr….and my first face off Daredevil has two left legs!!! My Jessica Drew Spider Woman had a broken arm right when I opened it as well. (Before the aforementioned lines were released i didn’t have too many problems…except for Ragdoll Mister Fantastic and a stuck Joint here and there) (Just so people don’t think i hate Toy biz because i don’t) LOL

It was almost like they lost the liscence and decided…”What the hey, nobody cares!” That is why Hasbro get some Kudos from me, because i have not come across a production error or a stuck joint (except my Mark III Iron Man has a stuck left wrist) yet in their run. I know it happens still, but it hasn’t happened to me. (Yet) ((There is still time))

I think Hasbro should sell Past BAF seperately through their online shop…i would totally by more sentinels…but yeah…the DCUC Wonder Woman is exquisite…best female figure so far…although Toy Biz Pheonix is aslo very good…I am actually very excited about Union Jack, Black Bolt, Daredevil Yellow and Adam Warlock…

Does/did anyone else notice that the Astonishing beast looks much better? Like, totally better (in the face region)????

  34. Well meg, you had a heckuva bad luck with marvel legends toy biz, but i had mine too, with Hasbro. something that never happened to me before, i bought all the stupid blob series, even with my hate to the ultimate wolverine and movies adaptations, and when im gonna put it toghether ¡surprise! the bloddy wolverine piece was broken… so that happenes with all mass production things; so i prefer judged them by the general quality and not for one toy that come screwed (everybody has past for that), so in that case, yeah.. toy biz was way better than hasbro…

  35. I assembled my BAF Apocalypse and one of the leg pins broke right in the lower waist the first time I tried to pose it rendering the whole thing useless. Toybiz had me send all the pieces in and they sent me a replacement BAF! I think first production runs of that BAF had smaller weaker leg pins. Later runs (with the black pants I think) had a bigger leg pin. I feel sorry for dudes who keep their MLs MOC. They better keep them MOC until doomsday. I got down with the Mojo series despite all the headaches with cheaper plastics and sloppy paint. My only real disappoint was Longshot. I was o.k. with the “Bon Jovi haircut” because it was true to the comic but I went through 3 of those guys and they just refuse to stand straight up. Guess he had scoliosis in addition to a bad haircut. I even tolerated Luke Cage’s crazy hands. I’ve used more SuperGlue on ToyBiz figures then I can count. Biggest bummer was finally getting a Gold First Appearance IronMan whose arm broke off the first time I moved it and couldn’t be fixed. Luckily Toybiz ended on the high note that was their last series, #15, with better plastics and improved paint apps. I defer to SAGuy to help seperate the worthwhile plastic crack form the crap. I didn’t know who most of those Legendary Comic Book Heroes were but man those were 2 great BAF series and a couple of solid box sets, just like S.A. Guy said. He gives thumbs up, I buy.

  36. SAG,

They showed the figs of Hawkman, Mister Miracle and Blk Superman at the show but they weren’t allowed to take pics of those right? If not, I wonder if ANYONE has pics of them. I’d love to see Hawk and Miracle.

  37. Right, no pics were supposed to be taken. I’m sure they’ll release pics of those figures online soon enough though. Or maybe they’re being saved for a future toyfare issue or something.

also… it’s been a really slow news week. I can’t find anything to post about. heh. i guess i need to go make a custom or something… the site’s feeling stagnant.

Ooh, and Rich you just gave me an idea. I need to create some little “thumbs up” / “thumbs down” icons to post at the bottom of reviews!

  38. SAG GO SEE IRONMAN NOW! Batman Begins was my favorite…now it’s IRONMAN!

  39. AWW MAN! They shoud have had Bi-beast and abomination they could have replaced windego with Bi-beast and she-hulk with abmomination and they should have had savage green hulk as a variant of the savsge gray hulk um by the way this is konda pld but I can’t find the stealth opperations suit at my Wal-Mart what should I do and um when do the hulk legends come out?

  40. love these hulk legends-a fin fang foom figures been a long time coming!

  41. Great site! And yes Hasbro has taken some of the fun in collecting Marvel Legends. However lets not forget some of ToyBiz’s figures weren’t masterpieces either! Remember Longshot? Lady Deathstrike? For me the Series 6 was the best series put out by ToyBiz. As for the new Hulk line-its already being posted on Ebay!
