Featured Custom: Martian Manhunter


custom dcuc martian manhunterI finished this custom up (just in time) for AFI’s DCUC Custom Showcase. The deadline for entries is today, so I had to kind of rush things. The base is a DCSH series 2 Bizarro with a SOTA Street Fighter Guile head. All the trim and doo-dads are either leather strips or apoxie sculpt. Expand for more pics!

I actually started working on this Martian Manhunter custom a while ago, but the dull coat / matte finish spray I used on him left him very sticky and tacky, so he became a dust and lint magnet. (Note - Never use Krylon Matte Finish spray on your customs. Apparently it never dries… ever.) I did my best to clean him up, but he’s still tacky and you’ll see the dust all over him in the pics… sigh. Oh well. No time left to strip and repaint him! I’ll just have to pretend he’s been battling evil-doers in some alternate dimension dust world or something…

    Despite the dustiness, that Martian Manhunter custom looks great! Both the Bizarro body and Guile head are excellent choices, and you’re quite skilled with the apoxie sculpt. The use of a SOTA Street Fighter figure for customizing makes me a bit sad, though — those things are too awesome to ever be used for parts. ;)

    Now I’m thinking of a crossover story in which it is revealed that the Martian Manhunter was posing as Nash before “dying” and subsequently becoming a member of the Justice League.

    1. This makes me crazy. Your awesome Manhunter only serves to make me want one NOW. Mattel needs to do a Manhunter REAL SOON!

    i love this custom. i agree wit the comment about using SF parts. SF figures are too awesome for customs (just like using mezco HB figs.) anyhow, its a good clean & crisp custom. keep it up!

    While I do like the custom and think you did a great job on it, I think the Bizarro body may be a little bit disproportioned for Manhunter. The paint, sculpts, and head all look great though.

    eh, I just didn’t want him to look just like superman, so i went with the beefier build. Maybe he’s mid-transformation and is about to bulk up for a fight!
