HML SDCC 2008 Fin Fang Foom Set
The boys over at TheFwoosh got their hands on an early box set of the Hasbro Marvel Legends Hulk Series w/ the Fin Fang Foom BAF that will be sold in a limited quantity at SDCC next month. There’s nothing different in this set than what you’ll find at retail for this series (which is already showing up at TRUs all across the country), so the pics at TheFwoosh will show you what’s coming.
I have to admit. I’m not really at all excited for any of these figs. The 14.99 price tag turned me off initially, but I still figured I’d pick up Wendigo and maybe Doc Samson and that Hulk: The End figure looked pretty neat. Now that I’m seeing good pics of the “in hand” figures, I’m thinking this wave will be an entire pass for me. Too much shiny unpainted plastic and obnoxious swivel joints going on. Just not worth the price in my opinion. But to each his own!

CRAP! Juggernaut needs a mid swivel, not Skaar, son of Hulk….
Gotta say I agree — these things look pretty pathetic. I might be tempted to grab She-Hulk or Wendigo at $10 (and Wendigo would probably look a lot better with a wash), but at $15 I’ll have no problem leaving them on the shelves. Like many of the Hasbro ML figures, though, I have no doubt that they’ll show up discounted in Five Below and Ross stores sooner or later!
HML sell so good my wal-mart still has series one on the shelf….
Yes! I can’t wait for SDCC even more now! I’m sorry guys, but I just don’t hate these figures like you guys do. Yeah, the price is a bit much, but we’ve all seen prices go up over the years and yeah, the quality isn’t great, but that hasn’t stopped some of us from buying figures of characters we truly enjoy. I don’t I guess that’s just my opinion. Can’t wait!
OHHHHHHHHH YEAH TIME FOR MY COMMENTS. I hope this won’t offend anyone to each his own but here are my comments. AGAIN, I mean no offense to anyone! This is just my opinion.
She Hulk looks like a Pregnant Megan Fox (chick from Transformers)
Gray Hulks teeth look like white corn kernals.
Doc Samson has bloaded retard hands
Hulk the End literally looks like Green Zombie crap.
Gladiator Hulk and Absorbing Man are crap too.
I ALMOST wanted to pick up Wendigo and thought…man, I must need some sleep or something…then I looked at the close up shot and DAMN Hasbro really is the WORST are painting teeth…geeez. All they did was paint the mouth red and throw white for each tooth.
It’s like all the characters had some crazy medievel rumbble, lost ALL their teeth, and painted their gums with white squares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yikes!
Can’t get worst than this guys! Actually these look even MORE crappy than their first/previous waves that I’m ACTUALLY excited (sadistically) to see how BAD their crap can get. At this rate, next year I’m expecting Hasbro to release plain beige figures (male and female) and have decal stickers included so we can “BUILD A FIGURE”. lol And they’ll be $30 a pop!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!
I look forward to being amused at their future lines!
The crappier they make ‘em…the more expensive they’ll be! The comedy of Hasbro is Classic. If any Hasbro guys are listening…quit your day job and do some stand up! You guys are great!!!
And they mysterious white box with the drawings of Marvel heroes and villians doesn’t make up for the crap inside the box. lol The box is the joke…what’s inside is the punchline! lol
I too don’t think these look too bad. They don’t look like no $15 figures but, we’re all here for FIN FANG FOOM! Where’s the enthusiasm for that 15″ beast??!?? My 2 year old goes around saying FIN, FANG, FOOM!! Running through the photos in the link above, I didn’t think these looked too bad posed with those ToyBiz figures. That Toybiz ML Spiderwoman looks like she has scoliosis AND is wearing an adult diaper under her uniform. I hate that figure more then anything Hasbro has given us!! Toybiz gave us crap that was First Appearnace Thing, lousy distribution of Legendary Riders TASKMASTER (took forever to find that one!), lousy plastics AND lousy paint apps in all of Series 14, Luke Cage’s gimpy left hand, the disaster that was the lousy distribution of the Walmart-exclusive wave- which was a big F.U. to non-U.S. collectors, 14 Iron Men, 27 Wolverines, and a partridge in a pair tree… I hope these get reviewed here! I hope they’re at least half decent 6″ers!! And I hope they go on sale!!! FIN FANG FOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll probably pick up wendigo and samson. and maybe hulk: the end. but i just can’t afford to buy this whole set just for “review purposes”. i just honestly don’t feel that any of these figs are good enough to deserve shelf space among the rest of my collection! I might have to call in for “guest reviews” from some of you guys who pick up the ones i pass on!
heh. actually, i might wait until they hit wal-mart, then just buy them, review them, and return them!
this is not my cup of tea. i’m with all of you. this looks like crap. come one. does hasbro really think the toy buy will swallow this. i thought at first that they were aiming at the younger kids who whine to mommy to buy them these figures. but if that were so- the price would be lower. this price is justified for a high end, but still mass marketed figure.
hasbro is screwing us across the board. and what bites for me is if i see soemthing new, my impulse reflect is to buy, and buy bulk. i hate that about myself. reguardless, this is a poor line. instead of improving on the work of others, hasbro tries to reinvent the wheel. none of these figures will see the checkout for me. i don’t need to settle for anything but the best.
based on the positive reactions from most collectors, it would seem that hasbro is winning this battle. when this line is a huge success because collectors are willing to plop down this kind of cash for crappy figs, hasbro will be affirmed in what they’ve always banked on: the characters will sell the figs, regardless of the quality of the toys themselves.
people are all about some hulk right now. so when they see these, they don’t see poorly articulated, unpainted, overpriced toys. they see awesome versions of their most wanted incarnations of the hulk. sigh… i really want this line to tank so hasbro will rethink their approach, but i think its gonna be a smash hit and all we’ll get from now on is overpriced crap. crap crap crap.
Hasbro has been tanking on the ML line, haven’t they? ML1 and ML2 came out A LONG TIME AGO. The sub-par Fantastic Four Ronan series never really hit besides a little bit at Walmarts. I thought these FFF Hulk figures and the Marvel 2Packs were a RE-LAUNCH of the ML brand. I saw some interview somewhere where Hasbro reps wept that these ML gaps were because they were reconsidering/retooling/rebooting whatever. I dunno. I love Hasbro for some things: giving us a Stan The Man Lee action figure, some decent female figures, Annihilus, a shot at a decent Thor for guys like me who didn’t get the Toybiz ones. But yeah, it depresses me to see what $15 will buy. Last year my $15 a pop got me amazing 8″ Mezco comic Hellboy figures that delivered in 5-stars in the areas of SCULPTS, PAINT APPS, ACCESSORIES, AND ARTICULATION. These ML offerings aren’t even close! And $10 today gets me amazing FOUR HORSEMEN sculpted 6″ DC Legends. I’ld be all over that BAF for $7-$8/figure but am going to pass initially until the reviews come in. In the meanwhile I’m putting $35 into that NECA 18″ Alien figure to satiate my plastic crack addiction.
oh man, rich… i saw that NECA 18″ Alien at my LCS the other day… it was all i could do not to buy it. i just literally have nowhere to put it. but that is one gorgeous looking figure…
isn’t that sad? i too have to stop making bionicle stuff because i got no more room for them. i display my different toy lines at seperate times simply because i don’t have the room to display them all. there are lots of things i have money for, but the space is limited.
and if i display something besides stuff i customize or repaint, it has too be incredible figures with lots of articulation for posing or playing, a good sculpt and paint app. i am not going to be a completist, and the hasbro execs think the die hard collectors are.
i am so into the statement on what $15 and $10 dollars get you then and now. sad commentary….
what’s doubly sad is that 90% of my collection isn’t even displayed. I have one stack of shelves that i put my most recent or favorite figures on, and everything else is packed up in rubbermaid tubs. but i’m out of space for tubs! i either need to find a way to afford an actual house (as opposed to a little apartment) or drastically cut back on my collecting. sigh…
I don’t have any room either, but lucky for me my girlfriend likes comic books and stuff like that too. So once college is done (in about a year), we are getting married and since I’ll be able to get a better job (no more fricken Wal-Mart!), we will get a house and no longer will my collection be restricted to one room!
i’m with you on storing away figures in tubs. me, its cardboard boxes with padding and newspaper. so i got to be picky now and not repeat my foolish actions of years gone by and sold everything and restart again.
Well im not doing any comments about the shit hasbro made with ML, because my opinion is clearly shared for most of us here.
Since i am a stupid pycho that for some reason put his hands on two transformers alternators, now im collecting them, even the masterpieces, and holy cow i have no more room for nothing else… my shelves are over poblated with marvel legends that established a war for control against the dc universe and classics figiures. hellboy and his guys are just tryng to survive the marvel zombies and spider spud. the street fighters are battling against other anime warriors, while gi joe are planning a coupe d´Etat to umbalance power spheres at my room and find a place for them… the transformers are the new guys on the block so they hang out for diferens places like my computer or any free table…
soon a war is gonna happen and i cant stop it….
HA!
the only loser in this war is our wallet….
somehow, in my toy collecting obsessiveness, i’ve gone from not wanting any of these, to maybe picking up wendigo and samson, to now pretty much committing myself to the whole set. what’s wrong with me? I’m playing right into hasbro’s hands! Nooooooooooo
its a mind control device… maybe they hired destro or something…maybe cobra is behind hasbro… that would logic if you think that cobra is really stupid, so stupid that actually seems commit self-sabottage like hasbro is doing into all these crappy toys…yes i said TOYS because that is what hasbro does, not action fiugres or collectibles…toys…think about it…toys…by the way doc samson looks kinda queer or something… im just interested in abosrbing man and wendigo…
Go SAG! I mean, they really aren’t bad figures and the character choices are pretty cool. OH AND FING FANG FOOM! I know I’ll be picking me up a box at SDCC.
No SAG, don’t fall for it! Refuse these figures! Think about DCUC, and abandon “ball joint” Hulk!
i probably will get them all if i have the chance, and try to sell all the hulk on line…yup, pretty much what i can do…
Yeah, i think it’s probably going to hinge on how easy it is for me to find them. if i can happen upon a whole set during my travels, i’ll pick them up. but i’m not going to go out of my way and waste gas to find crappy figs like skaar or that cheeseball lookin’ gray hulk…
This set is half JUNK. The Fin Fang Foom BAF is geat BUT Hasbro once again fails with 50% of this set. The Wendigo is by far the BEST of the figures and it’s very obvious it was sclupted by one of the artist who gave us the likes of Sasquatch, Rhino, Juggernaut and many of the massive figures of the ToyBiz run. Doc Samsom is the second runner up. Its a good likeness and is in scale with the larger figures as a whole, its passable, could have been a little more massive. The soft waxie plastic Hasblow uses is still a major put off. The Son of Hulk is ok, I do like the Aqua skin color and its articulation is good. The King Hulk is a partial reuse from the Planet Hulk (Torso and upper arms) are ok. The new legs give him more height.
Now for the BAD news. The She Hulk, Absorbing Man, Grey Hulk, and End Hulk looks like they were sclupted by the numb nuts that gave us, White Queen, and the Ronan BAF assortment. This person NEEDS TO BE FIRED and is just a BAD sclupter. Looks like they were brought over from the Star Wars department. Note to Hasblow. Get this person a Playboy magazine so they can see what a woman’s body looks like.
She Hulk…what a dissapointment. SMALL IN SCALE , POORLY SCLUPTED,
CRAPPY HANDS, CRAPPY FACE, and to add to this a cloth dress. They did make sure there was adaquate detail on the molded on bra and panties which is UNDER the cloth dress. The SH figure from a few assortments back is AWSOME compaired the this. WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING?
ABSORBING MAN….This isnt the AM. This looks like Yul Brenner from the King and I. THAT HEAD SCLUPT IS MOST FOUL. No expression. No Narly scowl, BAD BAD BAD. bland bland bland. Toybiz did a superior job compared to this.
Grey Hulk and End Hulk. First off the Scale is just bad. Hasblow is shrinking the figures people. You dealing with the HULK. He should be large. Massive.
The sclupts are passable until you get to their feet. I WAS SCHOCKED. The middle of the foot is missing. ITS DEFORMED compaired to past Hulk figures. HULK has stumpy duck’s feet. The hands on both figures are larger that the feet. Just CRAP.
This new articulation design Hasblow was come up with Just stinks too boot.
The Marvel Legends lines needs to go back to ToyBiz before it’s completely ruined. I can go on but their attitude of inferior product and maximum profit is apparent. $15 a pop for this junk to WAY TOO HIGH. At least Mattel picked up the mantel with their DC Universe line.
I’m all for an assualt on Hasblow during the Toy panel at SDCC. Call them out on the junk they make right in front of everybody.
Well, that would be fun… i mean… if someone start to throw hasbro´s marvel legends heads to the pannel…or someone yell that they suck as hell, but im pretty sure everybody there is gonna be licking hasbro ass after all…
Thats why it needs to be an organized effort. Mob rules! They will have to listen. I’m tired every year of having some snot nose kid going up to the micophone and asking a stupid question or some buttkisser blithering nonsense. They need to be held accountable. Hell, even an online viral campaign. It could work. Bad press makes people listen.
15$ is just too much for this kind of figs…. with less effort put out in the figs themseleves… the paint apps, articulation-wise is so-so.. so sad these characters are gonna be exploited and will suffer… i`ll only buy this if ever i get it at 50% of the srp… but at the current price? im gonna pass… how much more in the future series? what would the price range would be? 20 $? ugh!! no way hasbro…. if only you could make a high end-quality in th figs only then the 15$ justifies it…
Agree!!!!
Saw these bad boys a couple of days ago, and for the price, it really turned me off.
I am enjoying some of the toys Hasbro are currently producing, like the G.I. Joe 25th line, and all their transformers products. But, it really disappoints me that Hasbro always seem to drop the ball when it comes to their ML products.
The Ironman figures were very bad, but I did manage to over look some of the quality control problems because I liked the movie so much, I had to get a set (or two). But even then, I was not convinced that the price justified the figs that we got. Which, didn’t really matter, because the toys sold well.
I think enough people will want to get the FFF baf that it will off-set the poor quality of the She-Hulk, Absorbing Man, Grey Hulk, Hulk The End, and Samson figures.
But, here is my personal view about this whole thing… I got into ML because i am a huge Marvel fan, I want to get at least 1 figure for each character that I care for, and largely because they are relatively cheap (affordable). With the price increase, low quality, and the fact that I already have a nice collection of marvel toys (that i am actually not looking forward to the endless resculpts of spidey, hulk, ironman, etc.), I think it is time to drop this line. i will just quit cold turkey, and focus on G.I.Joe, Transformers and some Japanese Robots like Macross (oops, Robotech).
