Marvel Toys, What Could Have Been…

Get ready to have your (toy collecting) heart ripped out. At SDCC this year, Marvel Toys held a panel where they showed off all the cool concept drawing and prototypes they had prepared for Marvel Legends and Legendary Comic Book Heroes that were never produced. Among the highlights are the Build-a-Vehicle Avengers Quinjet and the Grendel figures from LCBH. AFI has the pics of all that was shown. I weep to know that these figs will never see the light of day. Oh, what could have been… What could have been…

Movie Masters Batpod…?

Mattel's Movie Masters BatpodGMamon101 mentioned earlier in the forums the rumors surrounding the Batpod being released as part of Mattel’s Movie Masters line. At SDCC, Mattel did, indeed, unveil the Target exclusive Batpod vehicle for the MM line. Initially, I sort of glossed over it because I generally don’t care for vehicles. But after GMamon101’s query, I started to give it more thought.

Clearly, with this Target exclusive Batpod, Mattel is ‘testing the waters’ for the success of releasing in-scale vehicles for the Movie Masters line. If it sells well, I bet there’s a strong chance we might see a Tumbler or maybe even something like a GCPD Paddy Wagon at some point. Then the idea of this carrying over into DCUC drifted into my head and I began to wonder how awesome it would be to get an in-scale Batcave playset or Fortress of Solitude or something. I think my opinion has changed. I’d have nowhere to put them, but I say bring on the vehicles, Mattel. Bring ‘em on!

Scarecrow and Joker!

More updates! I put up my review of Mattel’s Movie Masters Series 2 (which is pretty much just the Scarecrow) in the DC section. And I also updated the Series 1 post with pics of the Joker since I picked him up the other day. Enjoy!

HML Hulk Wave Reviewed!

I’ve put up my review of the Hasbro Marvel Legends Hulk Wave. Well, I only picked up five of the eight figs, and a couple of those I just got loose. So there’s no pics or review of Fin Fang Foom, but I feel like a did a good job of making fun of all standard figs.  It’s mostly just 20 paragraphs of me whining about Hasbro and then a dozen close-up pics of She-Hulk’s ass. Honestly, it might be the best review I’ve ever written! Head over to the Marvel section and check it out!

SDCC 2008: GI Joe

Most of what Hasbro has shown so far in regards to GI Joe was already unveiled last month at JoeCon, but they did pull out some finished product of recently announced figures. Airborne, Cobra EEL, and Croc Master are all looking pretty ace! Check out TNI’s pics to see all that was revealed at preview night.

SDCC 2008: DC

SDCC is upon us and last night (at previews night) Mattel brought out all the previously announced DCUC figures, along with some painted prototypes we hadn’t seen before! (Hawkman is pretty jaw-droppingly amazing!). Nothing “new” from Mattel so far, really, but the con just gets started today so I have feeling things will be getting mighty exciting in the coming days (bring on that Blue Beetle, Mattel!). TNI has the pics from preview night. I’ll update as more info becomes available.

EDIT: BOO-YAH! Mattel’s pane was today and they went DCUC crazy on us! Expand the post for a breakdown! (more…)

SDCC 2008: Marvel

SDCC 2008 officially kicks off today, but last night was “preview night” and already Hasbro is bombarding us with protos of new Marvel Legends products. I have a feeling this is going to be a huge year for SDCC unveilings, and for action figure awesomeness in general (assuming we can actually afford all this stuff with the rising prices across the industry…). TNI and TheFwoosh each have good image galleries. Expand the post for a breakdown of what’s been announced so far. (more…)
