If you read my review you’ll know that I love the new Mezco Liz Sherman figure from the Hellboy II movie line, but I was less than impressed with her articulation. Bicep and thigh cuts are a must for me, so I snagged an extra Liz from TRU the other day and then set about butchering her up by cutting off her arms and legs and giving her some extra jointage. I dremelled in wells in her shoulders and thigh into which I plugged screws that I put in the opposite end of the limb to act as a peg. Although things are off a little bit, it turned out remarkably well and… well, it actually worked! Expand for more pics. (more…)

I finished this custom up (just in time) for AFI’s DCUC Custom Showcase. The deadline for entries is today, so I had to kind of rush things. The base is a DCSH series 2 Bizarro with a SOTA Street Fighter Guile head. All the trim and doo-dads are either leather strips or apoxie sculpt. Expand for more pics! (more…)

Uber-talented customizer DDA submitted this little Batman work of art. I have a bit of a soft spot for any/everything Bats-related, so this custom is a knock out of the park for me. In DDA’s own words: “I’ve been a fan of Batman from a very early age and so when I got in to customizing action figures the natural thing to do was to make LOADS of batman figures. The figure that is on show now is my most recent and one of my favorite customs to date.” Nice work, DDA. It’s one my favorites as well! The base is a TBML Face-Off Punisher body with a DCD Hush Batman head with belt and boots from Mattel’s DCSH Batman. This pretty cool. I don’t how many of you guys customize (or are even into custom figures), but for those of you who are, AFI is putting on a DCUC-specific custom con of sorts. I think this is a neat idea. For years, Marvel Legends have been the go to base for 6″ superarticulated customs, but now that DCUC is coming on strong I’m seeing more customizers start tinkering about with the 4H’s figures. The deadline for entry to AFI’s showcase is June 16th, and the unveiling of all the ubersexy DC customs will come on the 28th of June. So, if you’re interested, time to bust out the paint and apoxy and get at it! I haven’t been customizing much lately myself, but I might just have to dig into the fodder bin and see if I can’t scrape something up for this one. Get all the details here.

My lastest custom creation is a ‘classic’ version of Cable. I always felt the ML6 Cable was undersized so I’ve been wanting a bigger, beefier Cable for a while. Lately, I’ve been watching the old 90s X-Men the Animated Series on DVD and it got me jonesing for a good, classic, “Liefeldian” Cable (sans the tiny feet and head… oh Liefeld!). So, I dug through the fodder bin and pulled out pretty much every strap, buckle, and pad I could find and whipped this bad boy up. Expand the post for more pics and the recipe. (more…)
