SDCC 2008: Marvel

SDCC 2008 officially kicks off today, but last night was “preview night” and already Hasbro is bombarding us with protos of new Marvel Legends products. I have a feeling this is going to be a huge year for SDCC unveilings, and for action figure awesomeness in general (assuming we can actually afford all this stuff with the rising prices across the industry…). TNI and TheFwoosh each have good image galleries. Expand the post for a breakdown of what’s been announced so far. (more…)

New Target Excl. Marvel Legends Pics

target exclusive hasbro marvel legends red hulk seriesOkay, so we now understand that HML series 4 is a Wal-Mart exclusive wave that comes out in December, and three months before that in September we’ll get series 5 as a Target exclusive wave. Sigh. Anywho, MarvelousNews has new promo pics of the figures from the Target wave and, gasp, they don’t look too bad. Well, Adam Warlock suffers from Hasbro-ticulation but the others are alright. I’m especially digging on Union Jack. Peep the pics.

SDCC HML Savage Land Box Set

hasbro marvel legends sdcc exclusive savage land box setStupid Fwoosh and their stupid access to not-yet-available figures! I wasn’t jealous about their early look at the HML Fin Fang Foom series because, well, those figures are lame. But this Savage Land box set is actually pretty nice. Not perfect by any stretch, but nice. Shanna’s face sculpt is *gasp* attractive! And articulation notwithstanding, that body looks, well, pretty good. Kazar is alright. I wish that they’d worked out the fabric folds in that body before they reused it. But whatever. They’re not THAT noticeable. I guess… Zabu is hit or miss. I like that sigma 6 tiger. I’m just not sure I like it with Marvel Legends. All told, this is one Hasbro Marvel Legends offering that I’m definitely going to try to get my hands on.

HML SDCC 2008 Fin Fang Foom Set

thefwoosh HML hulk vs fin fang foom sdcc box setThe boys over at TheFwoosh got their hands on an early box set of the Hasbro Marvel Legends Hulk Series w/ the Fin Fang Foom BAF that will be sold in a limited quantity at SDCC next month. There’s nothing different in this set than what you’ll find at retail for this series (which is already showing up at TRUs all across the country), so the pics at TheFwoosh will show you what’s coming.

I have to admit. I’m not really at all excited for any of these figs. The 14.99 price tag turned me off initially, but I still figured I’d pick up Wendigo and maybe Doc Samson and that Hulk: The End figure looked pretty neat. Now that I’m seeing good pics of the “in hand” figures, I’m thinking this wave will be an entire pass for me. Too much shiny unpainted plastic and obnoxious swivel joints going on. Just not worth the price in my opinion. But to each his own!

New Marvel Legends 2-Packs Pics

hasbro marvel legends forge wolverine two packMarvelousNews has some new packaged pics of the upcoming Marvel Legends 2-packs from Hasbro. The first assortment will be Forge and Wolverine, Elektra and Ronin, and Ultimate Captain America and Nick Fury. While they’re not perfect, I’m liking these sets. I’m not a big fan of swappable hands and heads on action figures, but at this point I’d far prefer accessories like these to a crappy BAF part. If Hasbro were to do away with the numbered BAF series releases altogether and just put out these two packs, I think I’d be okay with that. I’d still like to see some paint detail though!

Hey, Hasbro - It’s in the Paint!

custom repaint of the incredible hulk movie figureI was playing around with my The Incredible Hulk movie figures this evening and I started to feel a little bad for little Hulky and all the flak he’s been catching for looking like “a happy meal toy”. So, I tried to really figure out what it is with Hasbro’s figures that makes them look so darn crappy. In short, the answer is paint. Expand the post for elaboration. (more…)

Even More Iron Man Repaints!

new hasbro iron man the movie toysWow. Well, when Hasbro commits themselves to milking a license of every repaint possible, they don’t half ass it! As if the four different Iron Man variants (and two different Iron Mongers) we got in the first series weren’t enough, Hasbro has now released images of three more color schemes of the Mark III armor that will be hitting store shelves this summer. I can’t say I’m too excited about any of these. Captain America Iron Man paint job? Did we really need that? MarvelousNews has the pics.

Hulk Legends Packaged Pics

hasbro hulk marvel legends hulk figureMarvelousNews has posted high-res pics of all the figures from the upcoming Hulk Legends waves (both 1 and 2). I have to admit, while Foom is pretty solid looking as the BAF, these all seem, well, kinda crappy to me. Maybe it’s just that my Marvel Legends enthusiasm has soured and the price tag on these ($15 msrp) has really turned me off to them. Shrug. What do you guys think?

2008 NYCC - Marvel

img_7479__scaled_600.jpgOkay, the first bit of news from NYCC has trickled in, and it’s Marvel related. Guess what?! Marvel Legends is NOT canceled! Guess what else? The Nemesis wave - wave 4 - is now a Wal-Mart exclusive and won’t be available until December (Bah?!). In even less understandable news, HML5 will consist of Red Hulk, Spiral, Adam Warlock, Union Jack, Silver Savage Silver Surfer, Black Spider-Man, and Wolverine Black. And it will be a… Target exclusive! And available in September. So, in summary: Wave 4 - Wal-Mart, December. Wave 5 - Target, September. Nice work, Hasbro! WT-everloving-F?! (more…)

Marvel Legends Icons Canceled

marvel legends icons series 5 nightcrawlerWell, this isn’t much of a surprise, but Hasbro has canceled all orders of the fifth and sixth series of Icons figures to online stores. Hasbro isn’t very forthcoming with information, so we’ll have to take this as a pretty strong indication that the Icons line is done. The fifth series would have given us Daredevil and Nightcrawler, while the sixth was slated to bring Colossus and Jean Grey. I didn’t really care that much for the Icons scale, but I definitely would have picked up that Nightcrawler. Oh well. (more…)
