Our good friend Wes, the owner, proprietor, and witty progenitor of pop-culture megazone Scary-Crayon.com has come through for us with a guest review of that neato-looking superarticulated lion from the Chronicles of Narnia toy line. I’ve eyed this thing in the toy aisle many a time, wondering with what figures I might stick it (a beast to train for Kraven, perhaps?), but I’ve always passed it by. Now that I’ve seen Wes’ review, I’m gonna have to pick one up. Expand to post to see what Wes has to say! …read full article…

The new Hellboy II: The Golden Army movie opens today and I figured we’d need a place to talk about the presumed awesomeness of it. I know most of you guys are Marvel or DC nuts, but hopefully there’s a contingent of you who even if you’re not terribly familiar with the comics can appreciate what Perlman brings to the Hellboy character and how much fun Del Toro seems to be having directing this franchise. Hellboy FTW!

Okay, so we now understand that HML series 4 is a Wal-Mart exclusive wave that comes out in December, and three months before that in September we’ll get series 5 as a Target exclusive wave. Sigh. Anywho, MarvelousNews has new promo pics of the figures from the Target wave and, gasp, they don’t look too bad. Well, Adam Warlock suffers from Hasbro-ticulation but the others are alright. I’m especially digging on Union Jack. Peep the pics.

Our latest featured custom is a kick-ass LCBH-style Hellboy (yeah, we’re all about some Hellboy these days!) from SA’s own plain_sliced. PS rocked together the head, tail, and ROHD (Right Hand of Doom!) from Mezco’s “extreme” Hellboy with the ToyBiz Hulk Classics Smart Hulk body to put together one of the biggest, meanest, and gnarliest looking HB customs around. Awesome work! See more pics below. …read full article…

Ooh, so the news broke this morning direct from the Toy Guru himself. The Monday after SDCC, Mattel is launching a new Collectors Website with news, reviews, pics, and previews of all their merchandise… and you’ll be able to buy their action figure exclusives there! Hurray! So for those of us who don’t make it to SDCC, this is a chance to pic up Lobo and that King Greyskull He-Man fig. Oh, and the real kicker - the Mattel Online Store will be the exclusive home of the new Masters of the Universe line, with one new fig being made available each month. I, for one, think that’s a brilliant plan. It’ll be like having a monthly action figure mail-order subscription! Now let’s just hope this is successful enough for Mattel that they’ll offer sets of DCUC direct order. That would be a dream come true! Get more details here.

Stupid Fwoosh and their stupid access to not-yet-available figures! I wasn’t jealous about their early look at the HML Fin Fang Foom series because, well, those figures are lame. But this Savage Land box set is actually pretty nice. Not perfect by any stretch, but nice. Shanna’s face sculpt is *gasp* attractive! And articulation notwithstanding, that body looks, well, pretty good. Kazar is alright. I wish that they’d worked out the fabric folds in that body before they reused it. But whatever. They’re not THAT noticeable. I guess… Zabu is hit or miss. I like that sigma 6 tiger. I’m just not sure I like it with Marvel Legends. All told, this is one Hasbro Marvel Legends offering that I’m definitely going to try to get my hands on.

The boys over at TheFwoosh got their hands on an early box set of the Hasbro Marvel Legends Hulk Series w/ the Fin Fang Foom BAF that will be sold in a limited quantity at SDCC next month. There’s nothing different in this set than what you’ll find at retail for this series (which is already showing up at TRUs all across the country), so the pics at TheFwoosh will show you what’s coming.
I have to admit. I’m not really at all excited for any of these figs. The 14.99 price tag turned me off initially, but I still figured I’d pick up Wendigo and maybe Doc Samson and that Hulk: The End figure looked pretty neat. Now that I’m seeing good pics of the “in hand” figures, I’m thinking this wave will be an entire pass for me. Too much shiny unpainted plastic and obnoxious swivel joints going on. Just not worth the price in my opinion. But to each his own!

I got my TheFwoosh.com exclusive Seventh Kingdom Anitherian Nine Four Horsemen red elephant the Club of Thraugnn in the mail yesterday. Pics are now abounding in the indie section.
I also picked up a trio of what may well be my favorite action figures of all time this week! They’re the first assortment of Final Fantasy VII Game Edition figures from Play Arts… and man alive am I lovin’ these toys! Click over to the indie section to my gushing, nonsensical review.

The 2008 Joe Con is happening in Dallas this weekend, and Hisstank.com has been providing dutiful coverage of everything Hasbro has shown so far. So far, I’m really digging what Hasbro has had to show. The specs of Dusty and the Paraviper are awesome and Quick Kick looks really good too. And I’m also digging those “extreme conditions” 7-packs. Overall, the 25th Anniversary line isn’t perfect, but I do like the direction its headed in. I just hope I’ll actually be able to afford all this new stuff in the coming year…
